ATM
(ASYNCHRONOUS TRANSFER MODE) A network technology called ATM
(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) is based on transferring data in cells or
packets of a fixed size. One of the most attractive features of ATM
and biggest advantages over competing technologies such as Frame Relay
and Fast Ethernet is its built-in support for QoS. ATM can
provide QoS guarantees on bandwidth and delay for the transfer of
continuous media (CM) data, and assurance that end-to-end latency
will not exceed a specified level. |
